Girls Learn International (GLI), a program of the Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), empowers and educates middle and high school students to advocate for human rights, equality, and universal access to education. This means that in GLI, student leaders strive to:

  • Educate themselves and their peers on human rights issues that inhibit girls' access to education and their overall wellbeing, especially girls who are marginalized by discrimination in the US and globally
  • Advocate for the equal rights of all young people no matter their gender, sexuality, race, class, ability, culture, or religion
  • Create inclusive spaces where their peers feel invited, safe, equally heard, and respected in their identities
  • Make global connections and support girls who face barriers to completing their education, as an act that empowers and affirms their agency, not as an act of charity
  • Recognize that access to all reproductive and sexual health services is imperative to ensure the rights of girls, trans girls, and non-binary youth
I have read the GLI Mission Statement above and agree to strive to uphold these standards in my GLI Chapter's activities. {{ Cognito.resources["required-asterisk"] }} , { binding firstError.message }
{ binding firstError.message }

As a note, GLI Chapters are NOT required to raise funding, but they do have the option to fundraise for the GLI Partner School Network.

Which deadline are you applying for? {{ Cognito.resources["required-asterisk"] }} , { binding firstError.message }
{ binding firstError.message }

Please check one.

GLI does not provide funding for GLI Chapters in the United States or internationally. I understand that by applying to start a GLI Chapter, it does not mean I will receive funding to support my GLI Chapter. {{ Cognito.resources["required-asterisk"] }} , { binding firstError.message }
{ binding firstError.message }

GLI Chapters are responsible for creating their own fundraisers to support their Chapter's activities and the Partner School Network, if they choose to raise funding for the GLI Education Fund.

GLI works with students in grades 6 -12. GLI does not start Chapters at colleges or universities. I understand that GLI is only for school-aged students. {{ Cognito.resources["required-asterisk"] }} , { binding firstError.message }

If you are a college or university student and you want to get in involved with GLI please email asteimer@feminist.org.

Each GLI Chapter belongs to one of six regional areas: New York Metro (NY) Region, Southern California (SoCal) Region, Northern California (NorCal) Region, Eastern Region, Western Region and International Region. Chapters attends regional meetings and trainings in the area they are in. The NY, SoCal, and NorCal regional areas hold in-person meetings & trainings. If you live too far from one of these metro regional areas and can't travel to the in-person meetings about once every other month (on a weekend) throughout the school year, we recommend joining the Eastern or Western region, which hold meetings by webinar online only. The International Region is for Chapters not in the U.S. Due to time zone constraints we are not holding webinars for Chapters in the International Region at this time.

  • NY Region - regional meetings are held in-person in Manhattan, New York
  • SoCal Region - regional meetings are held in-person near the westside of Los Angeles, California at the Feminist Majority Foundation
  • NorCal Region - regional meetings are held in Palo Alto, California
  • Eastern Region - regional meetings are held online for Chapters not in one of the metro areas and in the Eastern Time Zone
