The Scholarship Application period is open until December 14, 2020. Scholarship awards are in partnership with Hecla Greens Creek Mining Company and awardees will be considered on timeliness and completeness.
To award a one-time scholarship to qualifying high school students taking MINL 120 – Introduction to Mining Occupations & Operations (IMOO). The Center for Mine Training’s mission is to promote and inspire students to understand and appreciate the various aspects of a career in mining.

If the applicant is selected to receive the scholarship, they will be notified the week of Dec 17 and provided with a UAS course registration form to complete.
The applicant will be provided with further details on how to participate in the Introduction to Mining Occupations and Operations course.

Applicantions will be evaluated using the following criteria:
1.Thoroughness and thoughtfulness of answers to essay questions. (50%)
2.Attention to detail and completeness of the application. (50%)
✔ Some Information in this application comes from your parent or guardian (if you are under 18) and a school official. You are required to review this application with them before submitting.
✔ Please ensure you provide an email address that is active and correct.
✔ Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to UAS student accounts upon registration.
✔ Tours of one of the Juneau mines are included as part of class content for students who have successfully completed the course, though completely optional. For students outside of Southeast Alaska, roundtrip airfare between Juneau and the nearest community served by Alaska Airlines is provided to successful scholarship awardees. Tours are tentatively scheduled for the end of May and are at the discretion of Hecla Greens Creek Mining Company and Coeur Alaska - Kensington
The applicant is currently enrolled in a program of study at the above high school. The GPA provided is the most current available at this time.

→ Students who accept Scholarship funding will make an effort to attend scholar events when able.

→ Participation in the mine tour is merit-based and will only be offered to students who have completed their work and demonstrated participation in the course.
