from Hawai'i & Mahalo, Thank you, Merci, Gracias, Danke
for calculating and offsetting your emissions with CarbonBuddy.
You are about to become the #solutiontoclimatechange
This is how it works:
Save your calculation at any time with the "Save" button. You will receive a personal link to your calculation allowing you to continue at your convenience.
Set the time period for your calculation.
We recommend calculating for a calendar or fiscal year in case it differs. Most likely it is easiest for you to compile needed information on such a basis. Also, this will allow you to compare future calculations so you can see trends.
Here is another benefit of calculating for an entire year (365 days) and offsetting 100% of emissions. Your business/organization will automatically receive a #CarbonDashboard and ClimateBuddyLabel at NO charge. You can use these tools to display your climate leadership on your website, social media and wherever you are in contact with your customers so they know you are doing business climate neutral.
This calculation and offset tool is designed to give you an estimation of your primary business emissions. This allows you to understand your role in climate change and empower you to make changes to reduce it.
Every country has a different energy mix. This means that, depending on where you do business, electricity you consume produces either more or less emissions. We are using numbers from "Our World in Data" (https://ourworldindata.org/energy#energy-production-by-regionfor this calculation.
If you want to find out how much emissions are produced by one Kilowatt Hour in your country/state right NOW, have a look at this awesome Map build by "Tomorrow" (external link, opens in new window).
Please enter all flights any person took on behalf of your business. Add as many flights as necessary.
If there is no flight to record, simply hit the "X" at Flight #1 and you will be able to move to the next page.
Don't remember the flight time? A good guess is getter than leaving it blank. However, if you wish to calculate the flight time, you can do this at https://flighttime-calculator.com/ (it will open in a new window).
In case persons are taking that same flight but are travelling in different classes, simply add another flight with the same flight time and select the applicable class. This will result in the most accurate emissions estimation.
Airlines are actually rated for their fleet efficiency.

Find the most efficient Trans-Pacific Airline: https://www.theicct.org/publications/transpacific-airline-fuel-efficiency-ranking-2016
Find the most efficient US domestic Airline: https://www.theicct.org/publications/us-domestic-airline-fuel-efficiency-ranking-2014
Maybe this is something to consider for your next flight?
1. Select ALL vehicle types used by your business / organization. (This can include cars, busses, trucks, motor bikes, farming equipment, ...) Please note: Anything with a combustion engine that is not useful to calculate with MPG or l/km can be added at the following page. There you will find a field in which you can simply enter the amount of fuel used (total amount of gallons/liters) for the calcualtion period.
2. Enter vehicle information at each category. Add as many as needed.
If your business / organization does NOT use any vehicles, simply scoll down and continue to the next page.
Electricity consumption
Your business produces NO emissions from its electricity consumption because it is powered by 100% renewable energy. You are ahead of most of us. Thank you for your leadership.
The "Total Emissions" value above is produced by your business / organization to provide your service / product to your customer within the calculated time period. Here is a value to put your emissions into perspective:
Global per capita average annual emissions: 4.97t (2014)
Almost done!
Now, that you know how much your business / organization contributes to climate change, you can start taking action by offsetting these emissions. Offsetting means, you support projects that reduce future emissions (i.e. renewable energy or carbon sequestration).
Tip: Because you are calculating emissions for your small business / organization, we recommend that you add the offset cost to your product / service as a voluntary "carbon fee". This means you give your customers the option to help you pay for these expenses. To find out how much you will need to add to cover all offset cost, simply divide the offset cost by your annual revenue and you will know how much you need to add per dollar (or whatever your currency is). From our experience, you can expect your customers to pay for 40% - 70% of your offset costs.
One of our main drivers at CarbonBuddy is the concept of leading by example. However, these positive examples need to be known to encourage following. Therefore, we created the #ClimateBuddyMap as a platform to spread the word on climate action. In order to put your contribution on the map we would need a little more information from you.
So, if you want to encourage others to follow the example you set, please fill out the fields below.
Please note: The map and your entry will be available to the public via the CarbonBuddy website.
Select "Yes" to get started.
This is how your entry could look like:
Thank you for joining the #ClimateBuddyMap!
Your entry will be added within one day after offsetting your emissions.
Congratulations!
Because you have calculated your emissions for an entire year and offset 100%, you will receive a #CarbonDashboard and ClimateBuddyLabel at NO charge after completing this offset.
