A L O H A
from Hawai'i & Mahalo, Thank you, Merci, Gracias, Danke
for calculating and offsetting your emissions with CarbonBuddy.
You are about to become the #solutiontoclimatechange
How it works.
Save your progress at any time by clicking on the save button.
Set the time period for your calculation
(We recommend to calcualte for an entire year)
If you calculate emissions for an entire year (365 days) and offset 100% of your emissions you will automatically receive a #CarbonDashboard and ClimateBuddyLabel at NO charge. You can use these tools to display your climate leadership on your website, social media and wherever you are in contact with your customers so they know you are doing business climate neutral.
If you wish to receive these tools (digital versions) at NO charge please calculate and offset emissions for an entire year.
This tool is designed to give you a quick estimation of your small business emissions to support you in understanding your role in climate change and empower you to make changes to reduce it.
Please note: The result will not represent your exact real world emissions but rather an estimation.
Every country has a different energy mix. This means that, depending on where you do business, electricity you consume produces either more or less emissions. We are using numbers from the World Bank for this calculation.
If you want to find out how much emissions are produced by one Kilowatt Hour in your country/state right NOW, have a look at this awesome Map build by "Tomorrow" (external link, opens in new window).
Please enter all flights any person took on behalf of your business. Add as many flights as necessary.
If there is no flight to record, simply scroll down and go to the next page.
Don't remember the flight time? A good guess is getter than leaving it blank. However, if you wish to calculate the flight time, you can do this at https://flighttime-calculator.com/ (it will open in a new window).
Did you know, that Airlines are rated for their fleet efficiency?
Find the most efficient Trans-Atlantic Airline: https://www.theicct.org/publications/transatlantic-airline-fuel-efficiency-ranking-2014
Find the most efficient Trans-Pacific Airline: https://www.theicct.org/publications/transpacific-airline-fuel-efficiency-ranking-2016
Find the most efficient US domestic Airline: https://www.theicct.org/publications/us-domestic-airline-fuel-efficiency-ranking-2014
Maybe this is something to consider for your next flight?
1. Select ALL vehicle types used by your business / organization. (This can include cars, busses, trucks motor bikes, farming equipment, ...) Anything with a combustion engine that is not useful to calculate with MPG or l/km can be added in the following page of this tool.
2. Enter vehicle information at each category. Add as many as needed.
If your business / organization does NOT use any vehicles, simply scoll down and continue to the next page.
There is no option yet to add emissions from your electric/plug-in hybrid vehicle to this calculator because we do not have necessary data to calculate accurate emissions for you.
We will add this feature as soon as we get reliable data for this part of the calculation.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Why does an electric vehicle produces emission anyway? I thought they are emission free? If an electric vehicle is charged by power from the grid, the vehicle is responsible for the emissions that are produced to generate the electicity it needs to charge its battery. Therefore, it produces emissions even though the vehicle itself does not produce emissions while driving (which is i.e. great for improving air quality in cities). If an electric vehicle is charged by renewable energy, then this car truly does not produce emissions from driving.
Your electricity consumption
Your business produces NO emissions from its electricity consumption because it is powered by 100% renewable energy. You are ahead of most of us. Thank you for your leadership.
We can calculate your energy use related emissions with the information you have provided so far.
Congratulations!
You have calculated all main emission sources from your business. Below you can find a summary to support you in understanding where your emissions come from so you can start taking action on reducing them.
The "Total Emissions" value above is produced by your business / organization to provide your service / produce your product to your customer within the calculated time period. Here is a value to put your emissions into perspective:
Global per capita average annual emissions: 4.97t (2014)
Wonderful!
You are almost done! Now, that you know how much your business / organization contributes to climate change, you can start taking action on reducing it.
Great. We appreciate your interest in how we operate. Here are a few things that might be of interest to you:

Want to know what exactly happens to your money when you offset with CarbonBuddy? Find answers: www.carbonbuddy.com/how-we-offset
Because you are calculating emissions for your small business / organization, we recommend that you add the offset cost to your product / service as a i.e. "carbon fee". To find out how much you will need to add to cover all offset cost, simply divide the offset cost by your annual revenue and you will know how much you need to add per dollar (or whatever your currency is). This is very likely going to be a really small number so your customers will hardly add to the cost of your product / service.
One of our main drivers at CarbonBuddy is the concept of leading by example. However, these positive examples need to be known to encourage following. Therefore, we created the #ClimateBuddyMap as a platform to spread the word on climate action. In order to put your contribution on the map we would need a little more information from you.
So, if you want to encourage others to follow the example you set, please fill out the fields below.
Please note: The map and your entry will be available to the public via the CarbonBuddy website.
Select "Yes" to get started.
This is how your entry could look like:
Thank you for joining the #ClimateBuddyMap!
Your entry will be added within one day after offsetting your emissions.
Congratulations!
Because you have calculated your emissions for an entire year and offset 100%, you will receive a #CarbonDashboard and ClimateBuddyLabel at NO charge after completing this offset.
We are using PayPal to process payments. In the next step, you can pay either with your PayPal account or by using a credit card.
IMPORTANT!
Because your offset costs are more than $1000 you can also pay by check or direct deposit - if you wish - to avoid processing fees. If so, please save this calculation now by clicking on the "SAVE" button and write us an email at mail@carbonbuddy.com.
We will get back to you shortly. Alternatively, you can also pay via paypal or credit card right now. It is your choice.
