The North Carolina League of Municipalities/Risk Management-Shield Services Division, provides reimbursement for the purchase of body armor for police officers, funded through the workers compensation insurance pool.
This program is only available to members of the North Carolina League of Municipalities’ Workers Compensation Insurance Pool.
The Soft Body Armor Reimbursement Program was established July, 1994. The program will reimburse members up to 50% of the cost of police body armor, subject to a maximum of $250.00 per garment, until funds are exhausted. Qualified agencies are eligible for reimbursement for a maximum of ten (10) ballistic vests, per fiscal year.
IMPORTANT: FY-July through December, the program is restricted to the first time purchase of soft body armor. Replacement garments may ONLY be purchased after December 31st, and through June 30, as long as funds are still available.

The Federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership Act of 1998 has been reauthorized. For those already receiving this funding, the enrollment period will begin May 14th and end six weeks after receipt of the enrollment application. First time applications are accepted from April 1st through May. THIS PROGRAM IS IN ADDITION TO THE WORKERS COMPENSATION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM.
